I think the coldest weather is behind us now, we've had a couple of really nice sunny days. On Sunday I looked at the week's forecast and decided this was IT - time to plant out the tomatoes in the bed I'd prepared for them. First i wetted down the bed and then I put on a thick layer of Sugar cane mulch. Then I drew the mulch aside at the points I wanted to plant and in they all went. The soil seems moist and friable and I hope the little seedlings like it. The varieties I've planted are _ Principe Borgheses, Mortgage Lifter, Wapsipinicon Peach, Sweet Tumbler, Sweet English and Imur Prior Beta.
I also planted in between the tomatoes, I had punnets of seedlings all growing out of space. So in went 4 kinds of lettuce (Flame, Australian Yellow, Bronze arrowhead, Romaine. Also Dark Opal , Purple Ruffles and Lettuce Leaf Basil. I'm trying some Osaka Purple Mustard this year for a change. Rocket went into the main vegie bed, which I have weeded again. There are 3 Artichoke buds growing now :)
The next thing to sow is some radish.
The Irises are doing well, I'm really impressed with Babylon Queen, so tall and with so many blooms, fantastic!
The roses are at last getting a move on, unfortunately so is the black spot. I'm beginning to think spraying is a waste of time. I love the Spring blooms, they are always bigger and better than the rest of the year's.
