Day 8. I didn't think I'd get this far in 8 days. Almost at the end of the trench thank goodness, about 3 more roses and that's it for this stage.
We went to the wood yard today and David bought the timber for the arch, which will be the access to the lawn and the water meter and the gas meter. It will be 1 metre wide and 1 metre deep by 2.1 metres high. The main posts are Cypress and smell lovely. The sides and top are trellis, which I always like the look of. I'm so glad it's taking shape now.
The roses that will climb it are Graham Thomas and Teasing Georgia. Both yellow David Austins. I didn't buy them specially for this but they'll do the job.
I'll go back to the start soon and plant the roses in properly, and top up the soil to the right level. The bit I'm dreading is shovelling up all those hills of dirt that have to go down the tip. My back is feeling very fragile now. I'm struggling on my own since day 2 as David's not able to help with the heavy work. :(
Where the pieces of masonite are is where the arch will be.
