The last couple of weeks have been warm and dry, not too drastic on the garden. Having the bore is fantastic and keeps everything alive with little effort. I don't use it every day by any means, probably 2 or 3 times a week at most. Being able to turn various areas on or off prevents over or under watering of plants with different requirements.
The rose are doing well, this time of year they need regular fungicide sprays and frequent trimming and restaking. When I deadhead I trim the stem back so that the canes don't get too long and spindly.
I spent a gift card that I was given at Xmas in Bunnings. bought 3 roses - Guy Savoy, Paul Cezanne and Papa Meilland. All are beautiful of course! I also got 6 more large pots and the potting mix and coir for them. So many roses are in small pots and although they seem happy it must be better for them to be able to spread their roots further. I always add Sudden Impact and water crystals, and if I have no Seamungus pellets I water them in with a seaweed solution.
On fri.25th I sowed Radish, carrot and lettuce seeds in the side vegie bed.On the 27th I sowed Caulis, Silverbeet, carrots, Leeks and Broccoli in the main vegie bed.Yesterday (30) I saw most of them have germinated.
The strawberries have been pretty good this year and many of them have been sending out runners. I have potted about 10 runners which are still attached o the parent plants. Once they grow their own roots I'll detach them and see if I can get the parents to fruit again. Some of the plants are due to be replaced anyway.
Today I discovered we have 4 limes on the tree! I only knew about 2 till now :)
I have put water tubes round the little lemon, the Lilac, the Forsythia and I plan to put them around a couple of little natives too.
Another new compost heap is started, I use a lot of it when I'm Potting. I find a mix of potting mix, compost and coir makes a good medium, and I add water crystals and whatever slow release fertiliser is appropriate.
I bought even more pots 2 days ago and have finished upgrading the roses except one at last.
I've attached shadecloth to the West side of the main vegie bed to hopefully stop new seedlings getting burnt in the hot sun.
The daisies have had a bit of a haircut too.
I was looking at older photos today and am amazed at the growth in the front garden since the dripline was installed. I'll pop the pics in here.
