A Gardening Diary

Another project has been happening over the last few days. I've been managing to grow the vegies under birdnetting so far, but it's a pain to have to take the net off and on all the time when weeding or harvesting. It really does protect the vegies from birds' excavations and cabbage moth butterflies and snails. So I thought - why not have something large enough to get inside with the vegies and have room to work there too. As soon as I mentioned this to David he drew up a design and we went to the woodyard to see what was available. Within a few days the frame was up, the corner posts are sunk into the ground for stability and the net is attached by shadecloth fittings. The net can be removed at any side so access is pretty easy. The bottom edges of the net are rolled onto tomato stakes and tied on with cable ties. Then the stakes are anchored down with tent pegs. I`m very pleased with it although it's a lot bigger than I realised and is rather eyecatching.
Other than that the rest of the garden is doing OK. The roses are putting on lots of leaves and there are quite a few buds fattening up.I can't believe how big the daisy bushes are now, they're dwarfing everything else in the bed. I've had to cut back a of growth around the roses in there, they'd better hurry up and get tall !!
