Val`s Obsession

A Gardening Diary

Wow, I haven`t written here for 4 days. That`s because a) I have been busy and b) There wasn`t much to put in. The main job has been netting the mulberry tree. We bought 10 mtrs of netting for it, and it really wasn`t enough, so I had to be creative. I cut it in half, giving me 2 pieces 4mtrsx5mtrs. The I wove the 2 pieces together so that I had a piece 5mtrsx8mtrs. This we stretched over the tree which is about 2.5 mtrs high.Bringing 2 of the corners in on each side and weaving them together gave me extra width. the ends were stretched down and the whole thing kept in place by multitudes of tent pegs fixing it to the ground. If anything gets in there it sure will have a job getting out !!
The Zygopetalum is in full flower now so I have to include another image of it. The perfume is glorious.
There appears to be only 2 baby birds now, but that`s enough !!
Two lovely perfumed roses are blooming, Fragrant Plum and Radio Times.
For some reason I can`t upload the Zygopetalum pic.

The tree netting has me wondering, how easy was it to get over all the taller branches???

    Hi Lucky1,
It wasn`t easy !! It took 2 of us, and we draped the net over brooms to get it high enough. Then we had to get equal amounts all round. I think it`s all secure but the poor tree looks a bit cramped. Planning to prune it shorter next year, and the fig, plum and nectarine too !
