Val`s Obsession

A Gardening Diary

I`ve been a busy bee after Weds. lazy day. I decided to give the fuschias under the willow a treat, they were looking spindly and miserable. I tip pruned them (some had big tips !) and weeded round them and gave them 2 wheelbarrows full of compost. A cocktail of Charlie Carp, soluble food and seaweed concentrate came next. Tomorrow they can have the straw from the first potato crop as mulch. they wouldn`t dare to die after all that, would they ?
I must say it`s lovely being able to eat our own home grown produce. Today we had our own potatoes (yum) cooked with mint and served with butter. For dessert we had strawberries and mulberries. The Satsuma plums are nearly ready, they`re red
and sweet but a bit crunchy still. The tomatoes are doing ok, all different varieties which makes an interesting dish. One thing I would like to know is how do you know when a Green Zebra tomato is ripe ? Anyone ?
